儒林外史严贡生人物形象及性格特点分析

　　儒林外史严贡生是怎样的人
　　在《儒林外史》的许多人物中，严贡生是作者着重刻画的一个反面典型。作者刻画这个人的丑恶，一直刻到他的骨头里去了。清朝的科举，纯为以文试士，惟有优贡这一个名目，是制度上唯一强调要凭所谓优良的品行来决定应举资格的。
　　在《儒林外史》里，被学政提了优行贡入太学肄业的，就是这个哄吓诈骗、无恶不作的严贡生，他还恬不知耻地对王家兄弟自称前任周学台举了弟的优行，又替弟考出了贡（第六回）。作者将书中最恶劣的人同优贡这个名目联系起来，既是冷嘲，也是从根本处来鞭挞科举制度。这一段有关优贡的突出描写，正是作者借严贡生这个侧面对科举制度的虚伪性给以深刻的揭发。严贡生的六亲不认更是被作者刻画得淋漓尽致。在第六回中，严贡生自己的弟弟严监生病死，临死前也不见严贡生来询问、关心；直到严监生死后过了三四日，才见严大老官从省里科举了回来。这也说明了当时封建科举麻痹人心，科举在严贡生这一类文人眼里远远比亲情重要。接下来，严贡生的虚伪和贪财又进一步得到揭露：严贡生回到家并没有立即去拜见死者，而是悠闲地和浑家坐着，打点拿水来洗脸，直到打开严监生的遗物，看见簇新的两套缎子衣服，齐臻臻的二百两银子，立刻满心欢喜，即刻换了孝巾，系了一条白布在腰间，在柩前叫了声‘老二’，干号了几声，下了两拜。在与王家兄弟攀谈中，还大言不惭地为自己辩护说我们科场是朝廷大典，就是不顾私亲，也还觉得与心无愧。
　　严贡生的欺压和敲诈，更是在云片糕上表现得入木三分。第六回中，严贡生取出一方云片糕来吃，剩下几片，阁在后鹅板上，半日也不来查点，而当掌舵驾手左手扶舵，右手拈来，一片片的送到嘴里了，严贡生先是只作不看见，直到船拢了马头，他便转身走进舱来，眼张失落的，四周看了一遭，还明知故问地询问四斗子：我的药往那里去了？此时一个装模作样的人物宛然浮现眼前。当他得知是掌舵的吃了，便发怒道：这药是张老爷在上党做官带了来的人参，同周老爷在四川做官带了来的黄连！值几十两银子，还要写帖子送到汤老爷衙里，打他几十板子再讲。这一段精彩的描写，无疑倾注了作者对此人物的厌恶和鄙夷。
　　看《儒林外史》的人无一不高兴看到严贡生失败，然而他是封建统治集团的一员，这个社会制度就保证他不会失败。第六回里写他欺凌妾出身的弟妇，企图夺产，闹得人仰马翻，碰巧遇着一个也是妾生的儿子的知县支持了他的弟妇，那一场官司，在形式上他是打输了；但是，第十八回里写出了他活动的结果，仍然立的是他二令郎，将家私三七分开，他得七股，实际上他还是得到了胜利。
　　严贡生这个反面典型，在乡绅地主集团里，地位并不高，而他的行为和品质，却集中了剥削阶级的一切特性，在他的那个集团里是很有代表性的。通过严贡生这个人物，可以进一步认识当时封建科举制度下的一些文人在政治、思想文化各个领域中丑恶和可笑的形象。
　　严贡生的人物形象分析
　　上次读到严监生，大家公认的吝啬鬼形象的代言人。继续往下读，越来越为严监生打抱不平。他的大哥严贡生才是不折不扣的吝啬鬼，他不单吝啬，还贪婪，嫉妒，算计别人，占尽便宜，心狠手辣。我觉得所有的坏词用在他身上都不为过。
　　第一个例子，他家的小猪跑到邻居家，邻居给他送回来，他不要，说不吉利，八钱银子卖给邻居。邻居辛苦把猪养大，有一百多斤了。一日猪不小心走到严贡生家，他不肯给，说猪本来是他家的。其实他就是想占便宜，趁机敲诈邻居一笔。无奈邻居实在太穷，出不起钱，严贡生居然雇人把邻居的腿打断了。占了人家的猪不给，还逞凶，真是丧尽天良！
　　另一个极之丑陋的事例，他二儿子完婚回来的船上。他吃剩的云片糕，故意不收起来，船家没忍住饿，把它吃了。结果下船的时候，他谎称云片糕是他的药，用各种名贵药材制成的，被船家吃了，以后他发病就没药救了。这明摆是讹诈，不想给船费，还想另外敲一笔。本来船家辛辛苦苦就挣不到几个钱。这个严贡生真是阴险狠毒。恨得我咬牙切齿。
　　更坏的是他居然想把弟弟留下的家产全部据为已有，把妻弟赶出去。他不择手段，甚至告到各级官府。幸亏县官汤父母也是妾生的，不愿偏袒他。
　　深深同情严监生，旧社会，长子为大的年代，他处处谦让，卑微，胆小，无可奈何。
　　痛恨严老大，仪仗老大的身份为所欲为。
　　感恩自己生在和平稳定自由的时代。
