　　韦小宝是怎样的人性格特点
　　是一个不学有术、运气极好并且十分讲义气（不管对什么人，只要本人曾经对他好过，他都会记住并且有所回报）的市井无赖。他的其他特点（如贪财好色等）都是建立在以上特点的基础上的。
　　优胜精神法
　　鲁迅笔下的阿Q以精神胜利法著称，阿Q也叫阿桂，韦小宝又叫小桂子，虽然一个是民国时期的一介小民，一个是康熙年间的王公大臣，相隔250年，但其共同的自乐心理都是精神胜利法。
　　精神胜利法是传统的中国社会各阶层所共有的社会心理现象。就下层贫农来说，他们受剥削受压迫凌辱，如果没有自得其乐的精神胜利和精神安慰来支撑自己，恐怕是很难宁静地生活下去的。阿Q挨了赵太爷的打，回到土谷祠，忿忿地躺下了，后来想：现在的世界太不成话，儿子打老子，于是忽而想到赵太爷的威风，而现在是他的老子了，便自己也渐渐地得意起来，爬起身，唱着《小孤婿上坟》。
　　韦小宝也是这样。他偷偷地坐一把龙椅，便发出做皇帝也没什么了不起的感慨，但他又终于不敢久坐，听到有人进来，吓得赶紧缩在一排书架后头，惊出一身冷汗。如果说这身冷汗能把他惊醒倒也罢了，偏偏他还要讨点便宜，看到鳌拜跪着给康熙叩头，于是将身子稍稍斜出，斜对鳌拜，心道：你又向皇帝叩头，又向老子叩头，什么满洲第一勇士，第二勇士，有什么了不起，还不是向我韦小宝叩头？他用这种精神胜利法来使自己处于一种优胜状态，这种自尊其实是弱小者的麻木自慰和自我陶醉。
　　韦小宝以自己是天下一大小滑头而自豪，恰如阿Q的第一个能自轻自贱的人。这种精神胜利法对他来说几乎是无时不在的，在五台山做主持时，与茅十八被海公公所擒后扔进花轿时，可以说随处可见。唯其如此，韦小宝才成其为韦小宝，在韦小宝身上，可以读到另一个阿Q，一个飞黄腾达了的阿Q。
　　爱慕虚荣
　　中国人大多爱慕虚荣，虚荣之大者，首推荣归故里，即所谓衣锦还乡。楚霸王项羽在灭秦东归时便留下了富贵而不还乡，如锦衣夜行的名言。荣归故里是中国人非常羡慕的一种探亲方式，当韦小宝带着七位如花似玉的夫人，满载多年来搜刮的钱财南下扬州时，不禁有一种自豪感，忍不住对大家宣称：普天之下只有两个人是最富有的，一个是当今皇上，那是洪福齐天；另一个就是我假太监桂公公，是艳福齐天。金庸在书中对韦小宝的虚荣症有许多精彩的描述，兹举一例：
　　韦小宝忽想：从前丽春院漂客摆花酒，妈妈坐在漂客背后，顺手拿几件糕饼给我，王八们还常常把我赶开，那时只想，几时老子发了达，也到丽春院来摆一台花酒，叫老鸨、王八、小娘们都来陪酒。哪知道今日居然有亲王、王子、尚书、将军们来相陪，只可惜丽春院的老鸨、王八们见不到老子这般神气的模样。
　　官场厚黑学
　　自李宗吾于民国元年提出厚黑学以来，影响力不绝，反观韦小宝的所作所为，其实也无非厚黑两字而已。韦小宝没有文化，但听的书多，看的戏多，深受戏文影响，从民间文化中获取人生经验、社会经验、历史经验。凡事从对己有无利弊考虑，有危险就逃跑、躲避，这确实是代表了古往今来相当部分国民的心态。
　　另外，从小他陪伴小玄子（康熙）嬉戏解闷和凭借从妓院赌场学来且提炼的说谎、溜须、行骗、赌博和察颜观色等本领，屡建奇功，赢得康熙的宠幸和封赏。他拯救过康熙，但也援救过天地会群英和顾炎武等大儒，既非汉奸走狗，又非英雄，倒像个高明的流氓和赌棍。他把宫庭当妓院，将政治斗争视作赌场下往和戏院演戏，他不学无术又毫无廉耻之心，事急时敢于不择手段去施用撒石灰进别人眼睛和抓别人下阴等下三滥伎俩。
　　这一切正是古今那些政客靠吹牛拍马，招摇撞骗的权术投机走红的写照，正是对市民阶层中那种讨好上司，利用关系，明哲保身和企望发财的心理的揭露。金庸在《韦小宝这小家伙》一文中说：韦小宝自小在妓院中长大，妓院是最不讲道德的地方。后来他进了皇宫，皇宫又是最不讲道德的地方。在教养上，他是一个文明社会中的野蛮人。为了谋求生存和取得胜利，对于他是没有什么不可做的，偷抢拐骗，吹牛溜须，什么都干，做这些坏事，做来心安理得之至。吃人部落中的蛮人，决不会以为吃人肉有什么不该。
　　光辉人性
　　韦小宝除了懂得一些从说书者嘴中听来的忠义外，几乎是个彻头彻尾的无德无行者，然而，韦小宝所表现出的人性，显然，小说人物韦小宝的身上有许多中国人普遍的优点和缺点。说谎使诈这些皆为人之天性，只是因为平常有道德规范观念压抑，如到非常时候，高级知识分子也会使出低级手段，平日里道貌岸然的绅士，私底下却是个下流胚子的人也甚多。
　　韦小宝有的优点，一般人却不见得具备。没有人能说韦小宝坏，因为他和其他人一样，是个真正的人，不是虚有的英雄、大侠，他的行为，一般人未必没有。韦小宝所表现出的人性，寻之以古代皆有，证之以现代亦比比皆是。这就是金庸伟大的地方，他透过韦小宝，捕捉到中国人永远存在的人性。而事实上，整个世界的人类所表现的人性，都表现在韦小宝的身上：
　　那人笑道：‘你这小鬼当真聪明得紧，哭得也真像’那小孩笑道：‘要装假哭，还不容易？我妈要打我，鞭子还未上身，我已哭得死去活来，她下鞭时自然不会重了。’
　　这是每个小孩的通性。像这样表达人性的例子，在韦小宝身上几乎俯拾皆是。在金庸的其他作品里，人性的至高表现，几乎都是推向到一个充满高潮的环境下产生的，唯独《鹿鼎记》除外，韦小宝在任何场合，都有人性的表现。比如：他见人说人话，见鬼说鬼话的作风；该奉承时奉承，该怒时怒；该有福同享时便同享（大享他享，小享分给大家）；从初识双儿到吃定双儿时的表现；追求阿珂时的种种丑态等等，都是书中随处可见的例子。
