　　苗若兰出场，简直就是公主一般的排场，气派大得惊人。小姐未露面，先上来的丫鬟、奶妈、厨娘，咭咭呱呱，嗦嗦，只顾自说自话，全不管那剑拔弩张，真枪实弹的紧张危急局面，就已先声夺人，让雪山上座中群雄真是又好气又好笑，发作不出来。又写鸟笼、狸猫、鹦鹉架、兰花瓶，写书籍、皮裘、衣柜，丫鬟奶妈只顾着收拾，商量要这要那，这样行那样不行，实在与座中场面不相称。雪山上群雄舞刀弄剑之处，忽然翻作温柔儿女之乡，此意外之笔调，轻松幽默，调节了故事情节推进的节奏。及至苗若兰亮相，真是遮也遮不住其高贵脱俗的世外仙姝的气质。一身黄衣，清秀之极，明珠美玉般的人品，让人不能逼视。
　　这是真正有深厚家学渊源的大小姐，柔而不弱，大气得体，手无缚鸡之力，却有主见，有担当。一上手就像春阳一般将人照暖照亮，让人不由自主地跟着她转，听她的主张和安排，她根本不管场面是如何的紧张危急，只是按自己的大小姐脾气行事，别打架了，我最不爱人家动刀动枪的。她已经习惯了一切以自己为中心，按自己的方式来处理问题，她去内堂拜见伯母，换衣裳，喝茶，用套着锦缎套子的白铜小火炉暖手，吩咐丫头去点香，还要挑剔香用的不对，一切都是旁若无人，只是出于自然，丝毫没有矫饰作态之处。她自作主张，但是却出手大方，又机智又聪明伶俐，送给两个小僮玉马，使得小僮回嗔作喜，这才解决了局面的紧张和难堪。有这样出色的女儿，又映衬了父亲金面佛苗人凤是何等世间少有的龙凤般人物。雪山上一帮自许豪杰的武林人物没有担当，敢于出头露面的却是不会武功的千金小姐苗若兰。任他天大危急场面，苗若兰只是镇定自若，视若等闲，给人以信心和安宁。
　　苗若兰和胡斐一照面，给人的感觉恍若是胡一刀夫妇再生，两对之间竟有惊人的相似和暗合：胡斐是胡一刀的翻版，满脸虬髯，根根如铁，浓发散乱，粗豪恶猛，只不过胡斐文武全才，更多一些书卷气和洒脱潇然的随意；苗若兰文秀清雅，弱态生娇，娇滴滴的一个美人，与胡一刀夫人惟一不相同的只是不会武功而已。胡斐一怔，别有一番滋味在心头。苗若兰也想错了，她本想怜惜悲悯这个身世漂零的苦孩子，不料这英武的大汉却反能让人信赖和依托。苗若兰还是依着自己那大小姐身份脾气行事，哪怕胡斐一副凶神恶煞的样子。见了胡斐，先取酒菜出来，要与胡斐饮上几杯。胡斐是飞狐，狡黠多智应是他的本色，和其父胡一刀又有不同。他并不一味相信人，并不卖弄盲目的坦荡大方，他暗中相试苗若兰会不会武功，又口中含有解毒药丸，所以根本不在乎酒中是否有毒。血的教训，教会了他防备和多疑。但他能坦言自己这样倒是我胸襟狭隘了，是他的真处，他一点没让人觉得狭隘。
　　酒还不足以助兴，还要雅琴相酬，苗若兰把胡斐完全当成客人，先入之见的好感，已油然而生。这有些像《神雕侠侣》中风陵夜话的那一段，先是心慕其人，及至相见，更是从此割舍不下，美人爱英雄，古今皆然。
