　　《书剑恩仇录》中，红花会没有人死，只有香香公主殒身。原著里自香香死后，青桐和陈家洛的结局并未详细交代，只是说红花会众人隐居大漠。但在后来的《飞狐外传》里，十年后陈家洛率红花会众人祭奠香香中，出现了青桐的身影。金老并未言明二人的最终结果，给了读者一个想象的空间。
　　红花会，金庸小说《书剑恩仇录》和《飞狐外传》中的一个反清团体，其领袖是总舵主陈家洛。据金庸亲自讲，红花会是他创造出来的，历史上没有。
　　红花会创建于清朝雍正年间，创始人红花老祖本姓朱，乃为救天下苍生而建。【此处说法是缘自骆冰重伤昏迷，为同属红花会的余鱼同轻薄，骆冰醒转，高声喝问：红花老祖姓甚么？余鱼同只得答道：红花老祖本姓朱，为救苍生下凡来。骆冰又问：众兄弟敬的是甚么？余鱼同道：一敬桃园结义刘关张，二敬瓦岗寨上众儿郎，三敬水泊梁山一百零八将。】【但于金庸新修版书剑恩仇录第十九回大陆版659页中间有段说法：陈家洛道：‘师父，我义父的事，你就只知道这些么？’袁士霄道：‘他被逐出师门之后，隐居了数年，后来手创红花会，终于轰轰烈烈的做出一番大事来。’由此可见，红花会是于万亭创立的，而不是一个姓朱的人，而之前提到的口号应当是不忘恢复前朝朱家江山、恢复汉族，这里的朱泛指的是汉族。】
　　红花会在江湖上口碑甚好，干下了无数轰轰烈烈的创举。会中龙盘虎踞，高手如云，十余名当家无一不是顶天立地的真英雄，少总舵主陈家洛更是继上代总舵主于万亭后的不世少年英雄。因为红花会是一个帮会，而并非一个整体统一的师承体系，所以它的武功非常之繁多，其中又以初级武功占多，但也不乏很多武林绝学。例如红花会三当家赵半山的暗器手法、四当家文泰来的霹雳奔雷掌法等等，皆是名动武林的旷世绝学。
　　百花错拳乃是陈家洛师父天池怪侠袁士霄所创，袁士霄少年时遍访海内名家，或学师，或偷拳，或挑斗踢场而观其招，或明抢暗夺而取其谱，将各家拳术几乎学了个全，中年后隐居天池，融通百家，别走蹊径，创出了这路百花错拳。
　　无尘道长早年断臂，尔后抛开一切杂念专心习武，最后靠一套单手所使的追魂夺命剑扬名天下，震烁寰宇。这套剑法狠辣无比。

　　《书剑恩仇录》中陈家洛一出场便向大家展示了真正的儒雅书生形象，书剑二字，在他身上得到了完美的诠释。
　　不过，与千里接龙头隆重的气氛不相协调的，是陈家洛当红花会总舵主的半推半就，形势所逼。
　　这暗示了陈家洛的弱点，也就是书生的弱点：缺少大英雄吞天吐地的大气势。
　　书生的气势，不足以重负红花会反清复明这样一个大的使命。
　　陈家洛以一套百花错拳打败周仲英，这才第一次显出其书剑俱绝的过人之能，有礼有节，不急不躁，技惊四座。
　　陈家洛和霍青桐之间是一见钟情，陈家洛初见霍青桐，惊为天人，爱慕之意不由生起。
　　但这爱意的根苗还未抽芽，却又莫明地夭折了。
　　因为转眼间陈家洛看见霍青桐和女扮男装的李沅芷亲密异常，他的自尊心受到了伤害，心中不是滋味。
　　陈家洛的弱点很早就暴露出来了。
　　他勉为其难承担了红花会舵主的大任，他也在尽力演好自己的角色，在别人面前扮演有勇有谋，本领大得很的领袖，但他内心中书生软弱的一面，并没有因此而消失。他并不像看上去的那种自信和游刃有余。
　　他有很脆弱的地方，很容易就受到了伤害，而且他的胸襟也不够宽大，起码不像一个干大事的领袖人物那样宽大。本来为了反清复明的大事业，是应该广开才路，接纳木卓伦要留下女儿相帮的好意，陈家洛却为了难以启齿的私人原因，说好了又变卦，拒绝了霍青桐的加入。
　　陈家洛后来的悲剧不是偶然的，性格即是命运，这一切早已注定。
　　西湖赏月之会，看陈家洛跃然上马，胸前戴上一朵海碗大小的金丝绒大红花，引爆红花会欢声雷动，官军中也有大批红花会众蜂拥前来施礼，那场面真是壮观之极，风光之极。
