　　匡秀才出场是马二先生还在杭州的时候，那会儿还没中秀才叫匡超人，随人做生意折了回家的盘缠，老父亲病重也不能回去相见。马二见他热爱读书，送了盘缠劝他继续参加科举。
　　匡超人就这样带着马二给的钱跟希望回到老家，他回家第一件事就是用剩下的盘缠买了猪蹄，用火慢慢煨着，给他生病的父亲吃。
　　煨这个词其实有两个意思，一个是在带火的灰里烧熟，另一个则是慢慢煮熟。我觉得这里应该指的后者，匡太公病重，小火慢炖的猪蹄他应该才咬得动。
　　有了一点本钱的匡超人便开始了辛苦生活，早上五更就起床杀猪磨豆腐，卖完了再去买猪买豆子，回家在灯下读书到四更，一天只睡一个更头。
　　讲到这里不得不说，想要辛苦挣钱，身体素质好也是个决定因素啊。一天就睡俩小时，放现在很多人都得崩溃了，更别提还有大量脑力和体力劳动。
　　因为匡超人的父亲生病，他不能买大荤菜，其实也就是现在的猪肉牛羊肉。所以如果赚得多，匡超人会买鸡鸭鱼肉也就是白肉类，再带一些猪腰子、猪肚什么的回家。
　　这里写得还是非常有道理的，大家都知道病人需要补充蛋白质，吃鸡鸭鱼肉是更加适合的。匡超人对待他的重病父亲，可以说照顾得无微不至。
　　在匡超人刚回家的时候，哥哥给他带了一只鸡子，也就是小鸡仔，说让做了汤给他接风，就不必告诉父母亲了。但匡超人不肯，他赶紧先盛了一碗汤给父母送去。
　　这样孝顺的匡超人，家里后来却遭了火灾。还好他平日里十分会做人，乡绅潘保正接济了一把，给他们找了间小屋子住，他还继续读书。
　　所以就在匡超人夜里读书的时候，被路过的县令听见，县令问潘保正之后被匡超人的孝心感动，后来便让他参加考试题了榜首。
　　匡超人成了匡秀才，还留在府上做客，报信的人已经先到了家里。匡太公急忙安排给他们吃糖和豆腐干，还是潘保正，拿了十几个鸡子来给他们做汤酬谢。
　　这时候的匡秀才虽然已经进了学，但还是穷得响叮当，只是乡邻亲戚看重他一些了。潘保正帮忙凑了份子钱摆了酒，这次宰了两只猪和些鸡鸭，吃了两三天。
　　但是再往后，这匡秀才就开始变了样。他到杭州先是结交了一群狐朋狗友，后来又替人考试，再后来娶到个媳妇入赘，却听说安排他替考的潘三爷被抓了。
　　匡秀才就这样又离开了杭州，到了京师见到李给谏，却因为怕被大官看轻而谎称自己没有娶妻，然后又娶了一门妻子。而原来的妻子意外身亡，倒便宜了这个负心汉。
　　这样一个杀猪磨豆腐挣钱的大孝子，后来变得不学无术、伙同诈骗、投机取巧，放现在还得背个重婚罪叹息匡秀才的同时，好像也看到了很多现代人的影子呐。
