　　韦小宝，金庸武侠小说《鹿鼎记》中的男主角。本是扬州人，其母韦春花是位妓女。一次偶然事件，韦小宝被江洋大盗茅十八带到北京，偶入皇宫，结识康熙帝，擒鳌拜，入天地会，拜天地会总舵主陈近南为师。赴五台山探望顺治帝，出家少林寺，解救顺治帝。后来身为赐婚使出使云南。平神龙岛，帮助索菲亚公主夺权。后因其天地会香主的身份被康熙帝发现出逃，通吃岛度过了几年。后来取得雅克萨之战大捷，签订尼布楚条约，最终携七个夫人归隐。
　　少年时期
　　扬州妓女韦春花之子韦小宝从小听书听戏，十分羡慕戏文中的英雄好汉，为了做英雄，他凭一时之勇搭救了一个落难的江湖好汉茅十八。茅十八感激小宝援手，更因他缠纠不休，将他带到了都城北京。在京城韦小宝被一老一小两个太监劫入进宫，他施展诡计将老太监海大富弄瞎，又将小太监名叫小桂子的害死，从此他便冒充小桂子在宫中做假太监。
　　一日韦小宝赌博归来遇到一个自称小玄子的华服少年正在练武，便与他交上了手，这少年正是康熙帝玄烨。顾命大臣鳌拜武艺高强、功高震主，为少年康熙所忌，为除掉鳌拜，康熙巧设计谋，让韦小宝率一群小太监以戏耍角力为名将鳌拜擒杀。韦小宝智杀奸相鳌拜，大清皇帝固然龙颜大悦，反清帮会组织天地会也对他青眼相加，十三岁的韦小宝于一日之间竟成了天地会总舵主陈近南的关门弟子和地位甚高的天地会青木堂香主。韦小宝奉陈近南之命回宫卧底。

　　一次他撞破了与邪恶帮会神龙教勾结的皇太后的隐秘，并从她口中得到了康熙之父顺治在五台山出家的消息，为防皇太后对小玄子不利，他将此事连同自己是冒牌太监一事告诉康熙。康熙闻听父亲尚在人间，又惊又喜，立即派遣韦小宝到五台山寻访。韦小宝因缘际会在庄家邂逅了生命中的妻子双儿，此后两人一同前往五台山清凉寺寻访到了老皇爷顺治，可却在回返途中被神龙教劫往辽东蛇岛。在蛇岛韦小宝乘神龙教内讧之际，施展拍马溜须绝技骗得了教主洪安通的信任，并当上了在教中职位甚高的白龙使。
　　韦小宝是怎样的人
　　金庸：写这部书时，我经常想起鲁迅的《阿Q正传》所强调的中国人的精神胜利。精神胜利的意念在中国的确相当悠久而普遍，但是却不是中国所独有的。有时走访国外，我也常发现：几乎每个地方的人民都有他们精神胜利的方式。所以我试图从另一角度去探索中国人所特有的一面性格。
　　倪匡：韦小宝是自由自在的典型、是至情至性的典型、是绝不虚伪的典型。韦小宝撕破了许多假面具，破坏了许多假道学，扬弃了许多假仁义。韦小宝是真。韦小宝是金庸笔下最成功的一个人物。韦小宝是绝顶人物。
　　严家炎：韦小宝是一个特殊的人物。金庸把在香港观察到的丰富的社会经验化用到韦小宝身上，形成一个可以大大分析的人物。阿Q是一个引起争论的典型，韦小宝也是，不过是另外一种。
　　陈墨：（1）韦小宝是靠自己的本能活在这个世界上，卑贱而又顽强，痛苦而又麻木，遭遇凌辱而又自得其乐。他无疑已经适应了这样一种特殊的生活环境，并且如鱼得水。在‘适者生存’的残酷的现实法则中，他首先必须保证自己的适应能力，包括利用一切方法，不择手段地自我保护，从而确保自己的生存。确保生存，或生存第一，这成了韦小宝的生存本能的最重要的表现形式，也是他的人生的最重要的原则。其它任何东西与之相比，都是微不足道的。
　　（2）韦小宝当然不是什么英雄，但他也不是一条恶棍。他不是君子，却也不是坏人。说他目不识丁，却又机灵善变；说他不会武艺，却又逃功精妙；说他卑鄙无耻，却又对康熙有点忠，对天地会有点义，对母亲有点孝，对吴三桂的恨又表现出一点节。弄不好，这家伙还可能搞出一个‘忠、孝、节、义’的大匾来挂挂，叫你哭笑不得。
