　　沈琼枝：可爱可敬，才貌双全，自尊自立，智勇兼备，刚柔相济
　　沈琼枝虽有侠女般的豪迈，但也不乏淑女般的知书达理。当她得知前来拜访她的两位名士正是杜少卿和武正字时，她并没有立即求救，而是以含蓄的口吻去试探：不知先生是客居在此，还是和夫人也同在南京，当她得知杜少卿家住南京时，她才提出既如此，我就到府上去拜谒夫人，好将心事细说这是为什么呢？这就是她知书达理、处身自重之所在了。因为他们当时正处在人来人往的闹市街口，如若她当场向杜少卿求救，以当时的社会观念，难免会让杜少卿有贪色救美之嫌。沈琼枝自知杜少卿是海内豪侠、千秋快士（迟衡山先生给杜下的评语），自然不会因世俗观念而不帮助自己，但为了考虑杜少卿的英名不能因自己而遭到一丝一毫的玷污，所以要确定杜夫人也在南京后，才愿去府邸求救。而且，她并非和杜少卿等一起来到杜家，而是杜武二人先回杜府，少顷，琼枝才坐了轿子到达。她的这种细心周到、顾全他人的处事作风也是很值得我们去学习的。
　　待到和杜夫人见了面，她便把盐商骗她做妾，她拐了东西逃走的话说了一遍，杜少卿听后不禁感慨道：盐商富贵奢华，多少士大夫见了就销魂夺魄，你一个弱女子，视入土芥，这就可敬的极了！的确，当沈琼枝来到宋家时，也确实见到了他家的奢华：三间楠木厅，一个大院落，堆满了太湖石的山子。沿着那山石走到左边一个小巷，进入一个花园内。竹树交加，亭台轩场轩敞，一个极宽的金鱼池但此时她并没有被这富贵所打动，反而产生了对宋商的极度鄙夷，她心里暗说道：这样极幽的所在，料想彼人也不会鉴赏。沈一眼就看穿了宋为富是在故作风雅，这些话是她对宋为富情趣、修养的极度蔑视和正确评价。可见，在沈琼枝的内心，钱财不是很重要的，她看重的是内在的旨趣、修养。这一点，我们在后文也可以看出，当沈被押至知县府衙，被问及逃婚原因时，沈铿锵有力、掷地有声地回答：怎肯把一个张耳之妻去事外黄佣奴？
　　关于沈琼枝的评价
　　书中将沈的大胆泼辣表现得淋漓尽致，但对她的外貌倒是着墨不多，我们再回头审视一下这位侠女的样貌。在书中第四十回，我们所获关于沈样貌的信息并不多，唯一的一个还是从宋为富丫环口中得知的：新娘人物倒生得标致，只是样子觉得惫懒我们再从封建社会娶妻娶德，娶妾娶貌的男子婚姻观念中来看，也不难推断出琼枝的美丽。
　　沈琼枝为何要远离锦衣玉食的生活而选择风雨飘摇的生活？这值得我们深思。在《儒林外史》中同样具有抗争意识的还有很多人，但我们却有截然不同的两种感受。比如王太太，她有所谓喇子的名声，也就是泼皮、无赖，她性子颇不温和，也是位不好惹的女子，但她显得庸俗可恶，她抗争的目的不过是贪图享乐而已。书中写道：他每日睡到中午才醒来，横草不拿，竖草不拈。每日要吃八分银子药而琼枝的抗争却是为尊严而战，源于她不堪忍受小妾身份的思想，源于她不愿以张耳之妻侍外黄佣奴的情感，这些使她感到从观念到情感都受到了侮辱。安逸的生活大多数人都不会嫌弃，但如果要用尊严去换取，琼枝绝做不到。
